My name is Jochem. I am from the Netherlands and I am 18 years old. Last summer I had an amazing experience in Madrid. I had the chance to be a volunteer for a month and help as a monitor for little kids going on summer camp.

This was an experience I will never forget. To come alone to Madrid as an 18 year old boy and step out of my comfort zone was special. The joy of working and playing with the kids gave me a lot of energy. On top of that I learned a lot through the journey. I learned to speak spanish more fluently, how to be more of a leader and I also how to take of yourself living alone abroad.

I even went on a summer camp close to Valencia next to the beach! We stayed there for one week. I think that was the highlight of my stay this summer. With my card for unlimited public transport in Madrid I explored the whole city. An other special part was getting to know other volunteers from Europe and Spain. They were all very kind and I have had a lot of fun with them.

Special thanks to Europa Joven and Krecer. They gave me this opportunity and helped me a lot with everything. Everything was so well organised and I couldnt have asked for more. I am really glad I took this opportunity and I would wish this to even more young people.
